The NY Royals began their AAU season at the WPA Bruins Tip-off Tournament in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, also known as the “City of Bridges”. The 17u team consists of point guards Kaia Henderson (recent Ohio State commit) and Anaya Coleman (multiple D1 offers including Siena and East Tennessee State) who brought the team together and led them in their first victory against Ohio Future and through a tough second game against BBA. Kaia looked to push the ball up the floor, brought intensity on defense, and took strong drives to the basket while looking to dish to a post player or finish at the rim. Anaya sees the floor very well and is able to make great entry passes to post players or finish over a taller defender at the rim. Bridget Miller, Teagan Kamm, Bella Doyle, and Adrien LaMora are the post players who all contributed in different ways. Bridget finished well around the rim and caught some tough passes and Adrien was aggressive while driving to the basket and hit some big outside shots. Kiara Anglin came off the bench and sparked the team by bringing intensity on defense at the top of the 3-2 and Margaret Dougher also contributed by hitting two threes late in the second half of game one. Just as there is an abundance of natural resources in Pittsburgh, there is an abundance of talent on this team.
