The 17u NY Royals team was selected to play in the invitation only, Gym Rat Challenge, this past weekend in Albany. The Royals played three very competitive teams and came out with a win on Sunday against the New Jersey Panthers. The 17u team started the game off strong by winning the tip and moving the ball well on the first possession which led to a strong take and basket by Anaya Coleman. They got going offensively with a couple three's by Lily Kennedy, rebounds and put backs by Kaia Henderson, and post moves and offensive rebounds from Teagan Kamm. Brigid Miller contributed with a strong post move and an and one which led to a 23-13 lead in the first half with four minutes left. The 17u’s came out with a strong and aggressive 2-3 zone which created steals and good transition and Bella Doyle was there to rebound and put it back. The 27-13 lead at halftime continued to increase as Adrien LaMora started the half with an and one then later hit a step back three. The ball movement in the second half was great and it opened up an outside shot for Brigid Miller and a wide open elbow jumper for Lily Kennedy. Kailey Kalet played up a level and showed throughout the weekend her defensive intensity and her ability to find the post players and make the right decision in transition offense. All of the players contributed this weekend especially in the third game. The Royals ended with a 52-37 win.
